The creation of the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) is born with the objective to allow the transactions of payments in Euros, with instruments different from the cash, in any place of the European territory, using a single bank account and a single set of payment’s instruments.

From a practical point of view, it pursues the accomplishment of no distinctions between a national transaction and a cross-border one. In a broad sense, it represents the creation of the Single Market for the Services of Payment, as it has already been obtained in terms of some other goods and services.

The project is linked to an aim of political nature: the development of the European Union. Credit entities- banks, savings banks and cooperatives-coordinated by the European Council of Payments (EPC) are playing an active role in order to make it a reality.

At the same time, the development of this project needs the engagement of all economic agents – private persons, companies and other organizations - that take part on it by arranging or receiving payments. Therefore, it is important to keep them informed and involved.

This webpage shows the contribution of CECA and Spanish Savings banks to the success of SEPA. Here states the most relevant information that tries to meet the needs of those interested in this great project.
